Radar, interpreted by most people, indicated a drenching but during the day I noticed while radar was ominous, little of the precip was hitting the ground so I headed to New Albany where there was Michael, George, Nick and Logan Pelfrey, back there in green, along with...... ..... in another group, new guy, Belgium Ben Martin, Aaron C and Jonathon, a visitor from San Fran and who lives at the base of one of the great climbs in the area. We waited until after 6:00pm but neither Gus or Peggy showed up and I wondered if that meant they were looking at radar and decided not to come. We headed east with Nick pulling practically all the way to Alexandria and keeping it at a moderate pace, arriving with a 21.6 avg. Nick led the way up the climb out of Alexandria with me trailing and Logan on my wheel to Hardscrabble where we regrouped. Above, the group heads up Battee and eventually make it to the infamous Stone Quarry rollers where.... ....Nick pulled for the duration with me clinging desperately to his wheel and Logan seeming to ride comfortably behind me. After the regroup, we headed to Caswell and on that climb we were again spaced 1,2,3 and at the top, I told Logan for variety, on the next climb he'd take the #2 position and I would take #3. We resumed the route at a moderate pace and finished with a 20.6 avg, skewed a bit down from the soft pedaling while regrouping. After we arrived in the parking lot, only then did the rain begin to pick up, thankfully. The Tuesday Canal Winchester route is the same as last week's route so scroll down to find. The Cycling Club also has a group ride, departing from behind Starbucks/Veloscience bike shop in New Albany and follows the route above. Moderate pace until we hit the climbs then it is all out with a couple of regroup points. A, b & C cyclists welcome to join.
