Strong group tonight. Aaron C wanted to extend the route to include the climb in Granville where the challenge is being held this Friday but people show up for the 37 mile route and adding 10 miles didn't get too many excited. Plans made, girlfriends/wives waiting, etc... New guy on the left, Geoff, Michael, Doug M, Nick plus Tym & Lisa, Glen, George, Chase, John K, Aaron C, Ron, Soji, Peter, etc... Someone said the pace last week was Tuesday visited by Thursday and since George dropped out of the group last week in the first couple of miles, we agreed to have a warm-up for a couple of miles. Glen having a funny pose with Lisa. I think they went to high school together or were close in classes. Gus Cook had texted me the day before and asked me to be tonight's commander. I toyed with the idea of doing something radical, ride the route clockwise but in the end we headed out 161 as usual, following Chase who bombed the Jersey Mill descent into Alexandria, chugged up Mounts, Lobdell, Battee and at last. paused at Louden for regrouping. Then on to Stone Quarry where we regrouped once again with Peter on the right, caught by the camera. I thought I had surprised everyone on the Caswell steps but Ron caught me at the end as I was wheezing and slowing drastically. I enforced the regroup at the top and then on to the right turn at Beaver where my bike hit a bump just after the first ramp and a spoke broke. Groan. I bid farewell to the group and soloed in. Good news is Rick is nearby today and the bike will be ready for Thursday.
