Tuesday Canal Route & Special Fund for the Injured

Recall that route, buried deep in your memory, from two weeks ago that we could not ride because of intense and immense thunderstorms that devastated the area's roads.  Yes, dat one.  Here it is again, hopefully to be ridden this evening, barring the unwelcome intrusion of yet more spectacular thunderstorms.  http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2834358

I'm thinking we need to start a victim's fund.  Some of you deep pocketed types could pool a few thousand, put it under my management and whenever one of us goes down and is kept off the bike for awhile, the money would be used for a temporary subscription to Netflix, pay for 6-packs of favorite beverages, finance "Friday Get Well Soon" parties at Shades for the Canal injured and Rusty Bucket for the New Albany injured, all the essentials that are not covered by insurance.  Wouldn't Terry G, Will Gleason and others enjoy seeing us at a party honoring them?  Think about poor Mark V, broken thumb aching and unable to ride.  Bet he'd like to be the center of attention at Shades, celebrating his injury.  The fund could be used to pay for bike handling lessons for Ricky G.  I think this idea has real merit so think it over and let me know.

Good idea, but why limit it to the injured? I would be willing to contribute to a fund to provide Netflix subscriptions, 6-packs, brats etc. to all the young, 130lb. gazelles on our rides if it would keep them on the couch and bring their weight up!

I liked it when there was beer and refreshments at the end of rides.

I like this idea and am for it. I think there are a lot of guys who will contribute and so I will start my Netflix subscription now and bring Mark the first invoice.

If I thought all I had to do to get a free six pack was to crash and hurt myself, I'd dive into someone's wheel on the next ride.

Perhaps the money should be used to fund journalistic training for bloggers who tend to suffer from DOTM and spew runny feces about issues they know little about before engaging brain.

You are confused about what is the purpose of this blog. It is called "Mark's Blog" and is a place where Mark can post reports about his experiences both on and off the bike. Mark started this so when he is really old (already old) and wheelchair bound, he can look back on these reports and maybe it will bring him some enjoyment. Or, maybe his children will read through these and conclude, "My Dad was a very average cyclist." If people want to come to "Mark's Blog" and read about Mark's reports, all the better but if it annoys your sensitivities, just don't come here and be offended or hurt by what I report.

Raining pretty heavy. Radar is not looking good for riding tonight...

It should also go to guys who get dropped and run their mouth after the ride.
