Dang, Marty's time from the Levi Leipheimer GranFondo.  Results are not assembled by route or by category so don't yet know in which place our boy finished although do know Neil Shirley came in first with a time of 4:38 on the 103 mile Gran route with 9000' of climbing.  Dave Chesrown's time was 6:51 so must be a story in there.

Last year there were two finishers who finished in less than 5 hours, the famous Neil Shirley being the first. Last year the third finisher was Tyler Williams at 5:05.17, he is on the BMC development team and had a great year racing last year. The next 3 finishers came in at 5:16.

So I finished in less time than the third place guy last year, but this year I think they had a few more guys finish in less than 5 hours. Neil Shirley was the first finisher again. I pretty sure that Jeremy Vennell who races for Bissell Pro Cycling was in front of me. They got away on the Kings Ridge climb about 35 miles into the ride and I never saw them again until the party. I am still tired, it was a really hard course. I really enjoyed the redwood forests. Many times the trees on either side of the narrow roads were wider than the roads.

Wow, 5th place on the Gran route with the gravel Willow Creek option. Which development team are you on? You should turn pro.

They are still updating the results. They have two guys listed as finishing before me that signed up for the Gran route but only did the shorter route (guys listed as 3,4). So I was the 3rd finisher of the Gran route. I sometimes think that I should be on the "get your head examined" team.

What happened with Daves ride? Seems like he should have been up there since he is also a near-pro.

I had my ass handed to me. I was with the front group at the base of the big climb. Started to cramp and went downhill from there. I have never hurt so bad but I kept going and only stopped for water and when my legs would lock up. (during this phase I was sitting in the ditch unable to move). I did get back on and was only able to push 18 on the flats. Some girl in a hungry hippo jersey passed me and I could not hold her wheel. She must have been 220. Kinda like the Cleveland Browns next year there is always next year...

Yes but at least you had great scenery to help mitigate the suffering.

They updated the results, I was 4th place. There is always next year!
